Cool Beans began its life way back in 2010 when a final year Sheffield University student Chris Arnold gathered together a gaggle of guys to help him kickstart a club night and online radio show. Thankfully, the idea of calling the endeavor Get Whacked was nipped in the bud in favour of Cool Beans, which was an homage to one of Chris’s favourite scenes from the very silly Andy Samberg film Hot Rod. The events showcased DJs, live bands and comedy acts across various venues in Sheffield and embraced a wide variety of styles and genres. They started small, the 80 person capacity Raynor Lounge, but then rapidly started raking in large crowds, over 600 people came to watch the Correspondents show at the Students’ Union. The radio show picked up various student radio awards in 2011 and the Cool Beans brand continued to blossom, like a beautiful flower that enjoyed Red Stripe and Jagerbombs.

In 2014, the team launched The Cool Beans TV Show, a comedy programmed on local television incorporated elements of sketch, interviews and live music. Originally only on the Sheffield branch of local television SLTV, the show quickly got snapped up by the Made Television network and ended up being broadcast on 13 different channels all over the country. The Cool Beans Collective also took their live shows all over the place – from the Edinburgh Fringe to Glastonbury Festival, from the Musical Comedy Awards to ski resorts in the French Alps. In 2018 The Cool Beans Roadshow was launched, the ultimate festival stage show incorporating comedy, music and a hell of a lot of fun. Up until the great pandemic of 2020, the team were still busy with the radio shows, podcasts, online videos, DJ sets and festival shows and having celebrated over 10 years of Cool Beans, they’re showing no signs of slowing down…
