Cool Beans in the Big Smoke!

Exciting news folks! Cool Beans is coming to the big smoke! For those who don’t know, ‘the big smoke’ is slang for LDN. And ‘LDN’ is short for ‘LONDON’. We’re coming to London basically, Hackney to be exact.

Yes indeed, after many years putting on events in Sheffield, running festival stages and the occasional party in Bristol – we’re extremely excited to announce a brand new monthly London residency!

It’s all taking place at Hackney Wick’s Number 90 Bar & Kitchen, entry is free and we’ve got a world-class DJ/AV artist booked for the first one…

Hailed as one of the most progressive audio visual artists around today, DJ Cheeba has found an audience world wide with his unique style of turntablism and video manipulation.

You may know him from his Lo-Fi Funky Space Quest & Return To The Boom Bap projects, as well of course his massively popular Caught In The Middle Of A 3 Way Mix which he created alongisde DJ Moneyshot and DJ Food.

Best experienced live, Cheeba has performed worldwide with tours spanning UK, Europe, Australia and Canada as well as being a regular on the UK and European festival circuit. A truly versatile performer, he’ll be smashing out an AV/DJ set for the Cool Beans at Number 90 Launch Party and frankly – we cannot wait!

The man has tons of stuff online for you to sink your teeth into, here are a few of our favourites…

“Genius… Great work!!” — Z-Trip
“Cheeba is one super-creative dude!” — DJ Yoda

Keeping the vibes rolling before and after the mighty DJ Cheeba will be resident Cool Beans DJs and host Chris Arnold. Expect tunes from all over the musical specturm – ska, reggae, hip hop, funk, soul, disco, breaks, sea shanties, maybe even a smattering of drum’n’bass if the feelings right.

FB Event can be found here!

ADDRESS: 90 Main Yard, Wallis Road, Hackney Wick, E9 5LN

Cool Beans is coming to town!

Brizzle Beans – The Stiff Joints live!

Ahoy all!

Apologies for the lack of output with regards to Cool Beans related shenanigans in the past few months/years. It’s been a busy old time for all involved. Chris has moved to Bristol and now works for Made in Bristol TV as an Alan Partridge/Richard Madely impersonator, Jimmy spends his evenings sailing his boat through a sea of freshers, the Welsh Whisperer has smashed apart the welsh language scene and is now seen as a heavenly deity by many there, Dom is in London and has cut down his booze intake to only 6 units an hour and Mickey Michaels, well, Mickey Michaels married Nikki Michaels and lived happily ever after.

With Chris moving to the vibrant hub of creativity that is Bristol, it made sense to perhaps put on a little party, and he’s doing just that – so if you happen to live in Bristol, or be in the area on the 6th October, come on down for a special evening of live music at Mr. Wolfs!

The mighty Stiff Joints put on a hell of a show whether they’re headinling a festival billing or packing out a sweaty pub. Think Madness, Bad Manners, Reel Big Fish, etc – big brass hooks and catchy singalong choruses. A real treat to have them headlining our first Bristol show.

Mad Apple Circus have spent the whole summer slamming festivals (including a main stage apperance at Boomtown Fair!) and they’ll be performing a sweet stripped back acoustic set for us all. Ska/reggae/hiphop/jazz delights in a Bristone style.

A whole variety of DJs playing the platters that matter from 8PM right until 4AM!

No advance tickets, just £3/£4 on the door!

For more info, have a wander over to the FB event here here!

Along the way, there may be a few more Bristol based musical adventures on the way in the coming months so stay tuned!

The New Power Generation – Barry & Angelos Interview

Chris sat down and interviewed the legendary Angelos Epithemiou & Barry From Watford ahead of their June 9th show at the Leadmill Comedy Festival. Their show goes under the name ‘The New Power Generation’ and they promise to identify your weaknesses, expose them in front of everyone and then cure you 100% from whatever rubbish you might have.

In the interview with Chris they discuss how they first met at Mensa, their hypothetical political manifesto and their relationships with the opposite sex. They also chat about Barry’s experience working for the tabloids as well as Angelos’s feelings towards veganism.

Contains some mild cursing.
